In today’s society images are thrown at us on a daily basis. From reading the newspaper in the morning to buying groceries at the store, photography bombards us everyday. Images influence your everyday life whether you know it or not. As a photographer, I try to absorb what I see and change it for the better. Instead of just shooting 18-25 year old models, I mix in people over 50, children and a variety of locations. I make images that are unique and help me stand out from the typical photography crowd.
I choose this different approach because I feel it gives me a distinctive look in photography that few have. In a sense, I am branding myself with the “non-typical” and stepping outside the comfort zone of many of today’s professional photographers. When someone sees one of my images they have to stop and wonder, why is this photographer shooting older people or why does she choose everyday people in her images? Photography to me is not only a profession but also a means of expression.
I want to express that everyone has something to offer a photographer. People’s inner beauty can be captured through my lens no matter what they look like. Just because someone doesn’t have smooth skin or a perfect body, doesn’t mean I can’t take him or her in the studio and create an exceptional image. I find that not only are wrinkles and laugh lines beautiful but they also give character to not only the subject, but the image as well.
In my images today I have a wide variety of models and ages. Some of my favorite images are of the people 50+ that I shot for a portraiture class. The image of the grandma laughing with flowers or the grandpa with the golf clubs portrays an inner beauty that few photographers are able to capture. I find it ironic that my strongest images are not of the 18-25 year old models, but that of people who are 65 with wrinkles.
I believe that successful images are something that not only awe the audience but also reveal the skill of the photographer. If I can get someone to smile, laugh or take a few more seconds to look at my work as opposed to the next guy, I feel that I have achieved something. I feel that to be a successful photographer you have to step out of your comfort zone or you will always fall into society’s norm. For the future, I am looking to open my own studio and shoot portraits. I’m first going to hopefully work for a cruise line and save up some money while getting some worldly travels under my belt. With my background in various areas of photography and genuine interest in finding different and unusual subject matter, I feel I am stepping outside of the normal and reaching into the depths of the unknown.
I am currently residing in the Lehigh Valley, Pa but am situated close to New York, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. I am willing to travel anywhere with expenses paid.
I specialize in portrait photography. This includes engagement, wedding, senior, fashion and editorial portraits. I also have a wide variety of layouts I use for model comp cards and proof sheets.
I usually only shoot full days on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (every other week day I can shoot after seven p.m.) because I work as one of the photographers for www.diapers.com and spend my weekdays shooting baby supplies and products. If you would like to shoot during the week schedule a session three weeks in advanced so I have enough time to rearrange my work schedule.
